Building a Campus Chapter from Scratch

One student's account of building a SPIC MACAY campus chapter from zero at a new Palakkad engineering college.
When I transferred to a newly established engineering college in Palakkad, there was no SPIC MACAY chapter there and no history of classical arts events on campus. Starting from scratch meant persuading a sceptical principal, finding a handful of interested students, and organising the first event on a budget of almost nothing. That first event — a flute recital by a young musician who drove three hours to reach us — drew forty students. Within a year we had two hundred regulars, a core team of twelve volunteers, and a principal who now asks us for the events calendar at the beginning of each semester.
